Description

In science, public infrastructure and everyday life, we are increasingly using large amounts of data and computer systems to store and process them. Through a series of initiatives, such as the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, the European Community has provided everything needed to manage our data and support the advancement of science and technology. In Slovenia, these initiatives further encourage our domestic investment in data management, supercomputing networks, knowledge technologies and data repositories.
In cooperation with the Slovenian representatives of the European project NI4OS-Europe - National Initiatives for Open Science in Europe and the community of the Slovenian national supercomputing network SLING with the HPC RIVR project and supercomputers Maister, Trdina and EuroHPC Vega, a large data system for an open science repository which will start operating at the Institute of Information Science in Maribor at the beginning of next year, top researchers will be presenting their view on access to data, research data management and the use of computational resources.

      The European Open Science Cloud 20m

      EOSC - The European Open Science Cloud is Europe's response to the new circumstances which came with the rapid development of information technologies. The EOSC ambition is to become a network of open research data, services and research infrastructures. The EOSC is a key part of the transformation of science towards Open science and thus towards better science, which will be able to cooperate more closely and effectively with all social systems, including the economy. In this way, the EOSC will be one of the important factors in digitalisation and thus one of the cornerstones of a competitive Europe in the increasingly volatile global context. The non-profit association EOSC was established on July 29, 2020. The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport has been involved in the creation of the EOSC for several years, and in the future, it will actively support the inclusion of Slovenian researchers and research organizations in the newly established association.

      FAIRification of Slovenian Open Access Infrastructure 20m

      We will describe the national open access infrastructure and the innovations that this infrastructure will enable by the end of this calendar year. A presentation of the FAIR concept follows this and how it is possible to integrate it into the processes (FAIRification) to support the life cycle of research datasets and the inclusion of a national persistent identifier for digital objects. Finally, we will present how we have established interoperability between the national open access infrastructure and the national COVID-19 data portal, found on https://covid19dataportal.si/.
